At an oil refinery situated in North Lincolnshire UK, the oil refinery utilises a process water ultrafine filtration system that is supplied and managed by Suez. The refinery infrastructure was upgraded to enable production of ultra-low sulphur diesel. The increased capacity to process sour crudes needs a constant supply of highly purified water, allowing the Steam Methane Reformer to function effectively.
The potable water to feed the Ultrafine Filtration System passes through one automatic BOLLFILTER filtration unit before transferring to the Ultrafine Filtration System. The BOLLFILTERS are an important part of the whole system, preventing minute debris particles entering the ion exchange units, which has the potential to shut the system down. The filters are maintained to a high standard by way of regular planned maintenance by BOLLFILTER engineers.
Laurence Dunn ran this case study project for Bollfilter UK in late 2020. He wrote the copy, took the photographs and put it together. He outlines the key stages below.
“The water quality has been consistently high since the filters were commissioned in 2009 and due to the performance of the BOLLFILTERS, contamination in the system is kept to a minimum and ensures smooth operation. Installing BOLLFILTERS for solids removal will extend the lifetime of a typical Ultrafine Filtration System. The BOLLFILTERS will operate for many years with minimal maintenance. Permission must be granted and agreed with all the organisations involved, in this case study, the refinery owner, Suez, Bollfilter UK and Boll & Kirch.” See case study online.
This oil refinery site needed new photography of external areas of the facilities. A safety passport and safety equipment was required to be worn while on this site. The proactive management team at the refinery and Suez were really helpful and this enabled a quick 2-month project timeline.
Project cost was £1252.65 plus UK VAT at 20%. Costings broken down as follows.
Reasonable costs if you consider the stages and skills needed. MiE also provide vehicles and equipment as a professional UK based marketing and advertising contractor should.
